The
Austrian Society of Montreal
The Austrian Society of Montreal was founded in the fall of 1958.
As stated in its original charter, the purpose of this association
is as follows:
- To preserve and make known Austrian social
and cultural life in the community, in the Province, and throughout
Canada in general, to make people more familiar with Austria;
- To unite persons of Austrian origin, and all
friends of Austria in Canada;
- To improve relations between Austria and Canada;
- To supply and order services of a charitable
nature to needy persons of Austrian origin.
- To collect and give donations for above purposes
as well as for other worthy causes.
Since
its inception, the Austrian Society membership has grown steadily
to more than 500 members today. The Executive, together with enthusiastic
volunteers, organizes a number of activities each year. Enjoyable
events such as movie nights, Heuriger and Summer- and Wintersport
Days bring members of the Society together on a regular basis. Cultural
events, organized with the collaboration of the Austrian Consulate
General, highlighting visiting artists, soloists and choirs, serve
to strengthen not only our ties to our heritage, but also those
that bind Canada and Austria. The big event, our Annual Ball, benefits
several charitable and cultural organizations. The Austrian Society
also welcomes members of non Austrian origin.
